This mornings freezing conditions have unfortunately worsened as the day has gone on, this combined with high winds at the far end of the forest have meant we have no choice but to closed the trail network until conditions improve.
The conditions are such that the damp air is freezing in the trees, this makes them much heavier than normal. The high winds combined with the increased weight of the trees means that there is significant risk of trees falling on the trails without warning. With these kind of unpredictable conditions, we have taken the decision to closed all mountain bike, walking and running trails until conditions improve.
The visitor centre will remain open, however please take extra care on the access road and the car park as they are also quite icy.
